An event featuring pro-gay Christians has been scheduled to serve as an alternative event to a Turning Point USA rally at Baylor University.

“Called ‘All Our Neighbors,’ the event is scheduled for April 22, the same day as a previously approved TPUSA tour stop at the prominent Baptist university in Waco, Texas,” the Christian Post reported.

Scheduled speakers include Kelley Robinson, who identifies as Catholic, is the first black lesbian to serve as president of the LGBT activist group the Human Rights Campaign, and is in a same-sex marriage, the Post reported.

Another planned speaker is Greg Garrett, a Baylor professor and columnist for Baptist News Global who “made headlines last year for his public affirmation of homosexuality and transgenderism,” the Post reported.

According to Baptist News Global, the alternative event “is believed to be the first time Baylor has allowed an openly gay Christian advocacy speaker on campus for such an event.”

University spokesperson Lori Fogleman told the Baylor Lariat student newspaper that as “an academic institution, Baylor University is committed to ensuring open dialogue and the robust exchange of ideas and perspectives.”

“We hold this commitment along with an obligation to provide a safe and nurturing educational environment within a caring Christian community. The University worked with the student organizations to align the event with institutional policies and procedures.”

The “This is the Turning Point” tour event set for April 22 at Baylor will feature “Donald Trump Jr., Border Czar Tom Homan, and Benny Johnson,” according to its online description.

The “All Our Neighbors” event was pulled together by a coalition of five campus organizations, the Christian Post reported: Baylor’s NAACP chapter, Baylor Democrats, Hearts for the Homeless, Students Demand Action, and Texas Rising.

Baylor’s College Democrats president told the Lariat: “It is important that the event take place at the time that Turning Point USA is on campus to provide an alternate sanctuary and focus for students, faculty and staff.”
