A professor is calling for a “smokers license” to limit cigarette purchases, suggesting the maximum anyone should be allowed to inhale is 50 per day over two weeks.
… The unusual suggestion was made by Professor Simon Chapman from the University of Sydney in Australia … Users would have to apply and pay for a mandatory license in the form of a smartcard that would be shown when buying cigarettes. …
… The smartcard would allow the government to limit how many cigarettes a smoker could buy – Prof. Chapman suggests 50 per day averaged over two weeks to accommodate heavy smokers. …
Anyone keeping up on current events should not be surprised by this suggestion. It’s only a matter of time before the idea reaches our shores. If the government pays for your health care, and death panels decide when it’s your time to “go,” then Big Brother-controlled medical policies such as these can and eventually will limit how much you can smoke.
