Tristan Denley, provost at Austin Peay State University, has created a computer program called Degree Compass that predicts a student’s future GPA within 2 hundredths of a point. The software factors in students’ past grades and class schedules to produce a staggeringly accurate guess about how well suited students are to their current classes. Denley hopes that ultimately, Degree Compass will boost the university’s graduation rate.
