Authorities have made public the identity of the man who shot and killed a police officer on Virginia Tech’s campus last week: Ross Truett Ashley, 22. He was a student at Radford University, which is about 15 miles from Virginia Tech. The Huffington Post reported that Ashley stole a car from an office building at Radford on Wednesday. After shooting the officer, he killed himself in a nearby parking lot.
Campus went into lock-down mode following the attack–which was particularly unnerving, given that Virginia Tech was the location of a horrific shooting that took the lives of 33 people in 2007.
